Taxotere Alone for Esophageal Cancer

Docetaxel, or Taxotere, is a taxane drug. It has shown antitumor effects on human gastric cell lines and tissues. These antitumor effects have led to the evaluation of docetaxel as a single agent and in combination with other drugs and modalities in patients with esophageal cancer. These studies show that it has anti-cancer effects in various studies, with or without other drugs. Other studies show similar results. Most of the use currently is in combination but it is sometimes used alone when the treating physician is concerned that a patient may not tolerate a combination well.
