Chemotherapy in the management of high-risk cutaneous CSCC remains relatively unexplored. Despite lack of well-established evidence, chemotherapy, in consultation with oncology, many oncologist consider adjunct therapy in select cases of high-risk CSCC with a high risk of metastatic or locally advanced disease, such as this case. However, this is sually combination chemotherapy, not cisplatin alone.

In the locally advanced setting, patients with advanced SCCS have historically been treated with platinum-based chemotherapy regimens. A major limitation of these studies is the heterogeneity of the populations reported, with both locally advanced and metastatic patients undergoing therapy with or without concomitant RT often reported within the same study, a confounding factor since patients with locally advanced disease often have a better prognosis. Most papers report on combination chemotherapies or retinoids.
