Pemphigus Vulgaris: Screening for Malignancy – pro

The relationship between BP and malignancy is still a matter of debate. Although this association often has been emphasized, it is not clear whether the coexistent malignancy and BP are pathogenically connected or if their association is merely linked to aging. Case-control series in patients with bullous pemphigoid have failed to detect an increased incidence of malignancy in patients with bullous pemphigoid when compared with age- and sex-matched controls. Current guidelines do not recommend screening for malignancy.
