Acthar gel and ACTH therapy for epileptic encepahalopthy – pro

H.P. Acthar® Gel (repository corticotropin injection) is an adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) analogue that can be used for adrenal insuficiency. It is also used for epileptic encephalopathy group of condition and a neurologis recommended ACTH in this case on that basis. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) or corticosteroids may be used, usually after standard aniterpileptic drugs have failed. A ketogenic diet and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) may also be helpful. Vagus nerve stimulation and epilepsy surgery may be appropriate in select cases. 1However, ACTH is considered first line choice in some varieties of this condition.
