capecitabine and irinotecan for maintenance in colon cancer – pro

The Xeliri combination is well-established for the treatment of colorectal cancer, but there is limited data on its use for maintenance. Sobol reviewed 12 maintenance trials. Ten trials used oxaliplatin with either capecitabine (CapeOx) or fluorouracil and leucovorin (FOLFOX) as part of the induction regimen, and 2 used irinotecan-based therapy. Only the oxaliplatin including trials showed a PFS benefit. Teh authors concluded that for patients with mCRC who achieve at least stable disease after a specified period of induction regimen (3-4 months), a maintenance strategy with at least FP with or without the addition of Bev is preferred.
