Cjhildhood astrocytoma – pro

Primary brain tumors, including astrocytomas, are a diverse group of diseases that together constitute the most common solid tumor of childhood, adn a number of combination regimens had been reported. Although there is no standard chemotherapy, because the condition is fairly rare,  the most commonly used regimen consists of temozolomide given concurrently with radiation therapy followed by maintenance temozolomide and bevacizumab.  A recent report by Kushner et al in topotecan resistant patients support the concepts that combining CPT-11 with very high doses of alkylators can yield greater antitumor effect. This regimen is broadly established and does not require other studies.
