Androgen ablation has been shown to improve survival in men with localized disease who are treated with external radiation. However, the same is not the case for neoadjuvant androgen ablation. The NCCN notes that androgen deprivation therapy before, during, and/or after radiation prolongs survival in selected radiation-managed patients.
