18F sodium fluoride (NaF) is a highly sensitive bone-seeking PET biomarker used in the detection of skeletal metastases, and amy idenftify disease that the less sensitive FDG PET can miss. Society for Nuclear mMedicine says that PET/CT 18 F bone scans may be used to identify skeletal metastases, including localization and determination of the extent of disease. Similarly, it is covered by Medicare.1. Registry data suggests than Its imaging-adjusted impact was similar to that observed with 18F-FDG PET for restaging or suspected recurrence in other cancer types.2We await prospective studies.
