Stem cell transplantation for PNET and pineoblastoma – pro

Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumors (PNET) and Pineoblastoma. Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumors (PNET) and pineoblastoma are a group of tumors defined by their appearance and are thought to develop from primitive (undeveloped) nerve cells in the brain. They appear similar to medulloblastoma . There are some reports that giving high-dose chemotherapy followed by an autologous stem cell transplant may be helpful for children with pineoblastomas and other types of PNETs. A 2015 systematic review has been started but not yet completed or published. The current state of knowledge si that HDCT with auto-HSCT in pediatric patients with high-risk CNS tumors may be a feasible option for patients in CR or PR after induction chemotherapy. It is ineffective as a salvage therapy in refractory patients. THere is no evidence that triple tandem transplants are effective.
